Monochrome w/ Chris Eales

Week 4

Absurdism writing workshop:

These were the words I found and decided to use for my automatic writing.

Weird philosophical nonsense in my automatic writing:

Somehow, I came up with very formal writings and thinking processes as I wrote more and more.

TITLE TEST:

Using the title I found interesting, I decided to try animating it through warping the collage alphabets by hand – however, I stopped since I didn’t really like the style of it.

Making a “Wrong film” Workshop:

My wrong film with the title “Close Proximity”

I thought this would look lazy, since I’m animating on the same paper and I wasn’t bothering to clean the rubber dusts or completely erasing the lines. I also didn’t make the paper line up consistently. I also looped some frames in the middle to create a weird boiling effect. The technique reminded me of William Kentridge’s charcoal animations, however, I don’t think it matches with the photo-realistic aspect of my outcome so I won’t use this for my outcome. I think this would be like opening another can of worms.

Fluid Frames:

During the feedback from Chris, I was referred to this website called Fluid Frames. This is the site based on the book with the same name featuring more resources and materials from the book. I found it very interesting to just sift through the artists featured in the site and see how they change each frame seamlessly into the next. I personally like the sand art due to it’s texture as well as how easy it is to remove or manipulate shapes.

Another test I did between Week 4-5:

This one was done during the making process of another test, but I found that I could try cutting out things as well.

My recording of cutting paper to use in my final outcome:

I liked how crunchy it made the final outcome feel
