Week 2:
Sketchbook – Experiment and overall reflection of the week:

Photos I took for the print:

These were the pills I had to take due to being hospitalized just a few days before starting this elective. Thought this could be a good way to start a “New Normal” meaning within my theme.
Experiments of week 2:
Animating a square workshop with paper:
I thought up a more character based animation for this to see how far I can lean into a simplistic yet intriguing outcome.
Animating a square through materiality:
This process made me think about how I could potentially use the technicalities of the paper as a means to help emphasize the animation/film on paper – and to do that, I tested it out with materiality of pens, chalks and charcoal first.
(Evaluation is in the sketchbook)
“MOTH” by Allison Schulnik
Alison uses the materiality of the paper’s way of soaking in the moisture of the paint, and the transparency of the watercolor to help create an interesting visual narrative. The way the paint is transparent helps in adding more depth and layers into the work, as well as gain more control of which area she like to crease and impact the paper more. I think that although my experiment doesn’t go as far into that manipulation – I wanted to see how the texture of the photocopy print looks on more natural charcoals and chalks. Looking at my outcome, I think I find it very successful in giving a grungy, yet modern look into it.
